Canadian Cutting Horse Association

The Canadian Cutting Horse Association champions and embraces the values of the west and ranching heritage by promoting the cutting horse through ethical, fair, and competitive horsemanship. The CCHA honours the rich history of cutting in Canada and preserves this legacy by advocating for growth, education, and financial sustainability while exposing the sport of cutting to a broad audience.

2021 CCHA Memberships now due, forms available on our membership page

The CCHA is still looking for Sponsorship for the 2020 year end awards, please contact us if you are able to help out!

To  Competitors, Members, and Affiliates:

On October 5, 2020 the CCHA executive conferenced to discuss our ballets for the vote on the carry-over for points from 2020 into 2021 yearend.

Previous to this the CCHA had been discussing and working with Jay Winborn and Steve Norris to get the CCHA members whom could not cross the 49th Parallel to have the horse and rider’s earnings frozen.  There were many discussions and letters but we couldn’t sell it to the E.C. board.  Because of this decision, we couldn’t hold NCHA and CCHA shows with a carry-over.  It was decided to cut a clean slate for the Champions and Reserve Champions only of the 2020 year.  The awards will be on a lower budget but will maintain the high standards that is recognized by our CCHA.  So for everyone out there please contact Robin if you are able to support with a sponsorship.

The awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting and Banquet in February but depending on Covid-19 regulations.

Now going forward, it was recognized in the ballots that we have a problem.  Several active participants that show at CCHA approved shows have strong opinions regarding the direction of the CCHA but do not have current memberships.

There are two issues we will address with this:

1 – Any further open CCHA meetings can only be attended by current (paid) CCHA members.

2 – The CCHA memberships will have to be paid at the first show that the member participates in or when they attend the Annual Meeting & Banquet.

Our competitors should understand that they need to support an association that has worked very hard to promote cutting and also hold the highest standards of etiquette for our members.  The CCHA has addressed many issues in the last few years.

Also discussed is the concept of a CCHA Finals.  We are considering having it sometime in September so we can achieve the maximum benefit for our members.  The board would like to have some follow-up conversation and ideas from our members.

In closing, I would like to thank my executive committee – Connie Down-Ciccoria (V-P), Lynn Edge, Les Timmons and, of course, Robin Powell for committing so much personal time and effort trying to do the best thing for cutting in Canada.  Trust me when I say we have your best interest of the CCHA going forward.

But coming into our yearend banquet and meeting I strongly recommend the people that have the right attitude and ideas to move the CCHA forward, come and get on the committees and be involved.  We welcome new blood!
